More Education Alumni Grab Teacher of the Year; Speak to Program’s Quality

by campus Jun 21, 2021

Four Pfeiffer alumni received Teacher of the Year awards at their respective schools. This underscores the ongoing success of the University’s Division of Education, said Dr. Christopher Boe, a Professor of Education at Pfeiffer.

He added: “This large number of Teacher of the Year recipients is a great indicator that the programming, field experiences, and ongoing mentoring provided by Pfeiffer and her faculty develop teachers who are experts in content knowledge, pedagogical skills, and professional dispositions.”

Here’s more information about the Teacher of the Year recipients:

*Harrison Andrew Foreman ’17 of Gold Hill, N.C.

Award: Teacher of the Year at East Rowan High School in Salisbury, N.C.

Resume: Foreman holds a B.S. degree in mathematics with a minor in secondary education. Since 2017, he has taught math courses in grades 9-12 at East Rowan.

Pfeiffer’s Impact: “One of the greatest things Pfeiffer taught me was the importance of serving those around me. Throughout my four years of teaching, I strived to show my students and colleagues empathy and compassion in an effort to have a positive impact on their lives. Pfeiffer started that drive in me, and my few years in teaching have taught me how powerful a gift it is to be in service to others.”

*Cara Johnson ’16 of Gibsonville, N.C.

Award: Teacher of the Year at John Lawrence Elementary School in Archdale, N.C.

Resume: Johnson holds a B.A. degree in elementary education and in special education. John Lawrence has been her sole workplace. Beginning in January 2017, she taught second grade there for two years, and she has just completed her third year of teaching first grade.

Pfeiffer’s Impact: “I couldn’t ask for a better college experience. Pfeiffer allowed me to build lifelong friendships, grow professionally, and create memories I will cherish forever.”

*Heather Wood ’10 of Asheboro, N.C.

Award: Teacher of the Year at Farmer Elementary School in Asheboro, N.C.

Resume: Wood, who holds a B.A. degree in special education, has just finished her 11th year of teaching at multiple schools in the North Carolina county of Randolph. She has taught both resource classes and extended content classes since she graduated. All of these have been in grades K-5. She currently teaches in an extended content classroom with grades ranging from K-5.

Pfeiffer’s Impact: “One of the main things I remember about my time at Pfeiffer was the motto ‘lifelong learner.’ I have tried to keep this characteristic with me in the world of teaching. I truly believe that not one day should go by when you do not learn something.

*Katie Sheron Husband ’15 of Asheboro, N.C.

Award: Teacher of the Year at Franklinville Elementary School in Franklinville, N.C.

Resume: Husband, a kindergarten teacher at Franklin, holds a B.A. degree in elementary education from Pfeiffer and a master’s degree in curriculum and special education from Liberty University. She will soon begin her seventh year as an educator, having taught kindergarten or first grade at multiple elementary schools in the North Carolina counties of Randolph and Chatham.

Pfeiffer’s Impact: “Pfeiffer’s education program taught me how critical relationships and classroom management are in a classroom setting. They taught me how to differentiate, not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well. The impact that the wonderful professors had on my education has forever shaped me as an educator.”

*Jennifer Stokes ’18 MSE was named Certified Support Staff Member of the Year at East Albemarle (N.C.) Elementary School.
