This summer, a longstanding relationship between Pfeiffer University’s Division of Business and Weserbergland University of Applied Science in Hameln, Germany, continued when 11 students from the German university’s executive MBA program spent nine days at the Charlotte campus for a strategic management and international business conference.

Pfeiffer University invites individuals, families, and church, youth and community organizations of all kinds to roll up their sleeves and volunteer in the Hunger Relief Garden located on the Misenheimer campus. Volunteers are needed July through October, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Pfeiffer University announces that Catherine R. Hurd will join the institution on July 17 as vice president for enrollment management. Ms. Hurd, who is currently a dean at Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU) Charlotte, will lead Pfeiffer’s recruitment efforts for undergraduate and graduate programs at Pfeiffer’s campuses.

When Staff Sergeant Joseph VanBencoten, U.S. Army, retired, graduated from Pfeiffer in May with a bachelor’s degree in biology, his service dog and “best friend,” Marlee, was by his side. As they crossed the stage together, Marlee was recognized by President Keith for her loyalty to Joe with a surprise “Honorary Bachelor’s Degree in Canine Science and Dogmatic Therapy.”

Pfeiffer University has been awarded $500,000 from the Golden LEAF Foundation for its forthcoming Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MS-PAS) program. The support comes as part of funding that totals $1.3 million from the foundation to Stanly County entities from its Community-Based Grantsmaking Initiative for three significant but separate projects.

Pfeiffer University mourns the death on June 1, 2017, of Ruby Maxine Barnes Mason. Mrs. Mason began her career with Pfeiffer in 1959 as administrative assistant to the vice president of business affairs, and later for the development office. In 1966, she moved to the Office of Financial Aid, retiring in 1995 as its director.

Pfeiffer University announces that Reverend Maegan Daigle Habich will join its staff on July 1 as university chaplain and director of church relations. In this new position, Reverend Habich will direct the implementation of a traditional campus ministry and chaplaincy, and work closely with the Francis Center for Servant Leadership to coordinate faith-based and secular service programming.

The Master of Health Administration (MHA) program at Pfeiffer University announces the installation of an Upsilon Phi Delta (UPD) Honor Society chapter, offered through the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). Charter members will be inducted on Sat., July 22 at a ceremony to be held at Mouzon United Methodist Church, 3100 Selwyn Ave., Charlotte.

This spring, 32 students from Pfeiffer’s criminal justice program participated in a full-scale training exercise conducted by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) designed to simulate the aftermath of a critical incident.
