When Pfeiffer President Dr. Chuck Ambrose addressed the campus community for the very first time during academic convocation in 1998, he introduced an initiative that very few had ever heard of - servant leadership. Twelve years later, Pfeiffer, which will celebrate its 125th anniversary this fall, is well-respected for its work and has received state and national honors for its civic engagement and servant leadership that is well ingrained into the university's fabric.

Sorina Riddle was 11when Operation Christmas Child (OCC) made her dream come true. Growing up in communist Romania, her family didn't have much. "The only thing I wanted for Christmas was a banana or an orange, because that is what they imported once a year to Romania," said Riddle, who is coordinator of learning assistance at Pfeiffer and an organizer for the university's OCC efforts.

Longtime Pfeiffer supporters and Stanly County residents James and Doris Mauney recently endowed a scholarship to benefit local Pfeiffer students. Dr. Chuck Ambrose, the university's president, recognized the couple for their continued support and for the establishment of the James and Doris Mauney Endowed Scholarship.
