Mrs. Marietta Abernathy – Kannapolis, NC

Marietta Abernathy embarked on her nursing career in 1997, beginning her professional journey in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Over the years, she steadily advanced through various roles, demonstrating exceptional leadership and expertise. Her achievements include serving as the Cabarrus County Medical Examiner, Nurse Manager, Director, and Assistant Vice President, each position marking a significant milestone in her career.
Marietta’s leadership acumen was further recognized during her tenure as Chief Nursing Officer at Atrium Health Stanly, a role she held for six years. In May 2024, she assumed additional responsibilities as the Interim Facility Executive, effectively managing dual roles within the facility. Her commitment and performance led to her appointment as the full-time Facility Executive in December 2024, solidifying her reputation as a dynamic and forward-thinking leader.
Marietta holds dual master’s degrees in business and nursing, underscoring her dedication to both the
clinical and administrative aspects of healthcare. She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at
East Carolina University in July 2024. Marietta is also board-certified as an Advanced Nurse Executive,
reflecting her high level of expertise and professionalism in nursing leadership. In addition, she is an
active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Marietta is deeply involved in her local community. She
serves as a board member for several organizations, including the Stanly Community College Foundation,
Stanly County Family YMCA, and Stanly Health Foundation.
