Mr. James S. (Slice) Penny ’22 – Charlotte, NC
James Slicer Purcell (“Slice”) Penny is a native of Charlotte, NC, and a lifelong United Methodist. He earned a BA in Psychology from Pfeiffer University in 2022, where he served as the non-traditional student representative in the Student Government Association and pastored Locust United Methodist Church in Locust, NC.
He is currently completing a Master of Divinity at Duke Divinity School (May 2025), where he is a fellow in the Thriving Rural Communities Initiative, has completed three field education placements, and has served as Bishop Will Willimon’s assistant.
Slice and his wife, Julie, reside in Durham, NC, and are preparing to move to Rutherford College, NC, where he has been appointed pastor of Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church.
