Dear Pfeiffer Pfamily,
Often, Pfeiffer University launches a journey in servant leadership, a core principle of the school’s mission. In Phyllis Sockwell’s case, though, that journey was well underway before she pursued a Master of Health Administration at the school, graduating in 2018.
It is with great sadness that Pfeiffer University announces the death on Aug. 10 of James Milligan Haymaker, a professor of art at Pfeiffer from 1965 to 2005. He was 85.
It is with great sadness that Pfeiffer University announces the death on July 31 of Lester “Snake” Roberts, 92, who served as the head of security on the Misenheimer campus, for 27 years before retiring from that position in 1994. Unable to stay idle, though, he signed on as the head of security at nearby Uwharrie Point, serving 20 years there before retiring for good.
Four faculty members at Pfeiffer University have achieved the rank of associate professor. They are Dr. Jason Emory (chemistry); Dr. Laura Reichenberg (biology); Dr. Elizabeth Harrison (music); and Dr. Sandra Holley (accounting).

Back in the early 2000s, Dr. Charles Ambrose, Pfeiffer University’s president from 1998 to 2010, asked each university unit for a Steeple of Excellence project. The task of coming up with one for the now-defunct School of Adult Studies fell to Dr. Vernease Miller, who was serving as the advisor of the school’s Health Administration program.
Pfeiffer University recognizes that students may have incurred unanticipated expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
