Susan Wilkie McHale is currently a Professor and Founding Director of the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Pfeiffer University’s Graduate School in Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina. She is both an AAMFT Approved Supervisor and LCMHC Approved Supervisor, and a licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC) and licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in private practice.
Dr. Wilkie McHale was born in Washington DC and graduated from The University of Maryland with an undergraduate degree in education. A classroom teacher, assistant principal, and gifted specialist, she earned a master’s degree in Administration & Supervision from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, a second master’s degree in School Counseling, and a doctoral degree in Counselor Education, both conferred by the University of New Orleans in 1991 & 1994 respectively.
An experienced couple and family therapist, Dr. Wilkie specializes in relationship therapy, parenting, adult development and aging, grief and loss, marriage counseling, divorce mediation, and counselor training & supervision. Her more recent research interests focus on trauma-informed therapy, attachment, self-of-the-therapist work, wellness, optimal aging, and academic program development.
