Welcome to Student Involvement

ASD Photo resizedThe mission of Student Involvement is to provide our students with experiences to live, learn, worship and serve as they grow into leaders inspired to change the world. Students will know what it means to be an effective group member and leader through planning and implementing activities, programs, and events for Pfeiffer University students, faculty and staff.

Pfeiffer University is a tremendous place of learning filled with multi-talented students, dedicated faculty and supportive administrators.  It is our goal to help bring these parties together to enhance community, increase university spirit and pride, as well as foster a personal connection to each and every member of the Pfeiffer family.

Student involvement is a vibrant and integral part of the Pfeiffer experience for our students. We believe that a community that feels good about their environment will be more likely to make a positive contribution to the university and its surrounding community.

Student Activities - Get Involved!

student activitiesThe Office of Student Life aims to provide a well-rounded college experience for students through service opportunities that open hearts, leadership challenges that open minds, and social activities that open doors. Our offices are located in Stokes Student Center Rooms 219-223.  For more information on clubs, activities and upcoming events, contact the Director of Student Involvement.

What Can I Do Besides Study?

In addition to your classes at Pfeiffer, there are lots of things to do, and because we're a small university, you can easily get involved. In fact, students often participate in a wide range of activities. You can focus in one area of special interest, or you can sample widely and explore new callings. Through participation in academic clubs, student government, athletics, the arts, special interest organizations, and campus entertainment, your Pfeiffer experience becomes more enriching and more fun. The Office of Student Life focuses on helping students explore college life beyond the classroom, through leadership programs and social activities, as well as campus events featuring speakers, comedians and musicians. The Student Government Association (SGA), InterClub Council (ICC), and Campus Activities Board (CAB) are three major organizations serving the entire student population.

How Do I Get Involved?

Perhaps the easiest way to get involved is to attend and participate in sponsored events and meetings. Clubs and organizations are always seeking new members. To learn more about meeting times and upcoming events, stop by the Student Life Office, located in Stokes Student Center, or watch for "The Toilet Paper", a weekly newsletter posted in campus bathrooms.

What Else Is Happening On Campus?

The life of a typical college student is a busy one! Students are engaged in a variety of activities, from academic projects and athletics to music and the arts, jobs, and just having fun. In addition to the possibilities listed above, on-going campus activities offer plenty of opportunity to try something new.

Varsity Athletics

Varsity athletics features the Pfeiffer Falcons against other college and university teams within our area and the conference. Enthusiastic spectators are always welcome!

Campus Recreation

Campus Recreation offers both play days and intramural tournaments. Play days are 1 to 2 hour events, and include dodgeball, kickball, ultimate frisbee and flag football. There is no need to register; just show up!

Intramural tournaments are more competitive recreational events, which occur over a three week period. Co-ed teams of 5 to 7 compete in round robin or double elimination tournaments of sand volleyball, indoor soccer and volleyball and basketball.

The Campus Recreation schedule changes each semester. To find out the schedule, see the campus calendar on the University Outlook email system or the Campus Recreation calendar on the website. To register a team, go to the Knapp Front Office to sign-up.

Center for Outdoor Leadership

The Center offers both one day experiences and multi-day experiences locally and in the greater outdoors of the southeastern US. These experiences include hiking in the Uwharrie National Forest, backpacking in the Blue Ridge Mountains and/or Great Smoky Mountains, TAG caving, whitewater rafting, climbing, and the list goes on and on. For more information about what is scheduled for this semester, click on the title to be directed to the Center for Outdoor Leadership's homepage.

Village Church of Pfeiffer

The Village Church offers rich opportunities for religious involvement and spiritual growth. Weekly chapel services, large fellowship groups like Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU), and opportunities ranging from Bible studies to dinner dialogue discussions encourage students to explore their faith and share with others.

Francis Center for Servant Leadership

Volunteer service is important to many students. Opportunities have included participation in Habitat for Humanity, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Victory Junction, and much more. The Francis Center also assists students in finding individual volunteer opportunities in areas of interest.

Regularly scheduled entertainment occurs each weekend and offers a good way to unwind after a full week of classes. The Campus Activities Board (CAB) sponsors musicians, comedians, speakers, movies, and many more activities. These programs are generally free of charge and open to the entire campus community.

Student Leadership

Student leadership roles are a good way to develop new skills. The Student Government Association (SGA) is the voice of the student body and provides both leadership opportunities and a place for students to bring concerns and ideas. SGA Senate meetings are held weekly to discuss various student concerns and issues. Senate activities include working on committees that focus on specific student matters, planning university celebrations and special events, and sponsoring campus-wide forums on topics of interest to students.
