Dean of Arts and Sciences
Pfeiffer University seeks a dynamic, motivated and innovative leader to support the academic mission and vision of Pfeiffer University as the Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences. This division serves both undergraduate and graduate programs and is primarily affiliated with the University's Charlotte and Misenheimer Campuses, which include both residential and online programs. The Division of Liberal Arts and Sciences is an integral component of Pfeiffer University, with programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The Dean serves as the overall administrative and academic leader for the Division of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and will partner with faculty to develop a long-range strategic vision that will connect to the broader University mission. The successful candidate will foster faculty support for an intribuiing interdisciplinary curriculum that engages students through the use of technology and provides opportunities for experiential learning.
The Dean will promote collaboration across teh disciplines within the division as well as lead and support efforts to enhance opportunities for faculty professional development and scholarship. The Dean will oversee teh division's efforts to maintain the processes and practices that drive continuous improvement and ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
Further responsibilities include collaboration with the Office of Advancement to increase fund development for educational projects and programs essential for the ongoing success of all areas within the department, and participation in university wide Council of Deans Requirements include an earned doctorate in a field within the Liberal Arts and Science discipline, and be eligible for appointment at the Associate/Full Professor level.
Candidates considered will have a Ph.D. within a discipline of the Liberal Arts and Sciences at the Associate Professor level, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and scholarship, as well as a proven track record in developing and growing a successful academic unit, and securing external funding. A strong commitment to the principles and practice of servant leadership is expected, with strong reasoning and analytical ability, excellent communication, team building and organizational skills. Pfeiffer University is a private, Liberal Arts University, affiliated with the United Methodist Church, whose mission is to prepare servant leaders for life-long learning.
The main campus is located in Misenheimer, approximately 40 miles northeast of Charlotte, NC, with additional locations in Charlotte and the Raleigh area, and as stated above, this position will be based in Misenheimer, but will be required to coordinate programs in multiple locations.
