Confucius Institute at Pfeiffer University/Charlotte Welcomes the Shanxi University School of Music for Dance, Music and Instrumental Performance to Celebrate the Chinese New Year
In celebration of the Chinese New Year, the Confucius Institute at Pfeiffer University welcomes from its partner school in Taiyun, China, the Shanxi University School of Music's Dance. The troupe visits Charlotte the week of January 23 for several performances that showcase Chinese traditional dance and instrumental and vocal music.
The troupe's first stop is Weddington High School in Weddington, N.C., Tues., Jan. 24, 1:30-2:30 p.m., where they will perform for students from Union County middle and high schools. Its second performance will be at Waddell Language Academy, 7030 Nations Ford Rd., in Charlotte, on Wed., Jan. 25, 6:30-7:30 p.m. This performance is free and open to the public.
Program highlights include The Red Lantern by the Dance Troupe, traditional instrumental performances such as Chinese Er Hu, and vocal performances of local folk songs from the Shanxi region along with Chinese classics like Zhongguo Hao Yun, Wishes for China.
Additional Confucius Institute-sponsored performances by the dance troupe over the course of its visit will take place at University of South Carolina, Presbyterian College, and several other educational institutions in and around Charlotte.
