Pfeiffer University Senior Sport Management Student, Matt Ellwood Participates in Charlotte Motor Speedway Internship
Matt Ellwood, a senior from Fort Mill, S.C., and Sport Management major at Pfeiffer University has landed in victory lane with the opportunity to participate in a highly competitive internship at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Through connections at Pfeiffer University, Ellwood was able to get the inside advantage on getting into this program and from day one has stepped into the role with enthusiasm and talent.
Ellwood has been a key promoter for the ChaseU program, a new college effort to get more students to the races at a discounted price, in addition to promoting huge events such as the record setting Tennessee vs. Virginia Tech football game that took place at the Bristol Race Track. Ellwood has also had the opportunity to drive over 30 laps in the official pace car with local executives.
Despite describing the most challenging parts of the internship as the details, Ellwood was enthusiastic about his experience.
“I have learned more in my first couple weeks here about event planning, than I did in three and a half years at school,” he said. “I am so thankful to have this opportunity and I hope to keep learning more as I go.”
Ellwood will be working at the Bank of America 500, something he is both excited and nervous about.
“This is one of the biggest events in all of NASCAR and I get to be a part of it. I’m nervous and excited at the same time.”
Ellwood’s internship is providing him with valuable learning experiences as well as resume-building job experience that will set him apart in his future job searches. Ellwood is truly an example of a Pfeiffer Falcon who is going Beyond Boundaries!
