Six students from Pfeiffer University participated on Feb. 5 and 6 in the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities’ (NCICU) fifth annual Ethics Bowl at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C., where they won two rounds of competition. Twenty-two colleges and universities from North Carolina participated in the competition, which focused on the theme of Ethics in Technology.

Kelly Misiak, director of service scholars for Pfeiffer University’s Francis Center for Servant Leadership, has been named the 2016 Civic Engagement Emerging Leader Professional of the Year by North Carolina Compact, a coalition of 35 public and private colleges and universities.

Pfeiffer University reports the death of student Talisha Danielle Crowder, 19, of Salisbury, N.C. Ms. Crowder had been reporting missing by her mother on Mon., Jan. 18. She was found Monday evening in Salisbury, the victim of a gunshot wound. A prayer vigil to honor Talisha’s life will take place today at 6 p.m., Henry Pfeiffer Chapel, 48380 U.S. Hwy 52N, Misenheimer (Stanly County).

Pfeiffer University extends sincere condolences to the family of longtime Pfeiffer supporter Eleanor Knotts, who died on Sat., Jan 16. For several decades, Mrs. Knotts and her husband Ernest “Bear” Knotts, founders of Albemarle-based Bear Insurance Service, have been instrumental in Pfeiffer’s success.

Dr. Ashley Oliphant, assistant professor of English, is a recipient of the 2016 John F. Kennedy Library Foundation Hemingway Research Grant. The grant will support research for a forthcoming book titled Hemingway and Bimini, The Birth of Sport Fishing at “The End of the World.”
