Tiffany Smith, a Pfeiffer University junior studying Business Management and Leadership, has earned the title of Miss Stanly County 2017. She will compete next June in the Miss North Carolina pageant.

Smith, whose academic record is especially strong, is an officer for business fraternity Phi Beta Lambda as well as a member of the Campus Activities Board and the cheerleading team. She understands the importance of her pageant achievements to her education and the development of a future career.

“Through pageant participation, I have gained a lot that has helped me through my journey at Pfeiffer,” she said. “My interviewing skills are stronger and I feel ready for upcoming job interviews. I’ve also learned to balance school, work, extracurricular activities and Miss Stanly County responsibilities so that I give each sufficient time.”

Important to holding the Miss Stanly County title is serving as a role model—for area youngsters whom Smith encounters as well as for campus underclassmen. This is a responsibility she takes seriously.

"Tiffany is a leader and willing role model for her younger teammates,” said Dr. Valerie Rakes, varsity cheerleading coach. “She consistently works one-on-one with freshmen team members to help them improve technical and communication skills and promote a positive image of Pfeiffer University."

Two important driving forces of the pageant experience, service and scholarship, are especially important to Smith—because both are central to her Pfeiffer experience. As a service platform, she has chosen to support Positive Lifestyles Among Youth (P.L.A.Y.), which teaches children the value of exercise, nutrition and resilience. In terms of scholarship, Smith is able to earn scholarship money to support her education.

“I’m very proud to be affiliated with the Miss America Organization,” she said. “It’s not only deeply committed to community service but is also one of the nation’s leading advocates for women’s education and provider of scholarship assistance to young women; my experience has been extremely rewarding.”
