Pfeiffer University welcomes Dr. Susan Luck, professor of business administration, as speaker for 2017 Summer Commencement. Summer commencement exercises, which recognize students completing graduate and undergraduate degree completion programs based in Charlotte, Raleigh and online, will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5, 1 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Missionary Church, 3400 Beatties Ford Road, in Charlotte.
Dr. Luck joined Pfeiffer’s faculty in 1994, and teaches graduate courses in the MBA and Leadership programs, in both seated and online formats. In addition to teaching organizational communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, managing a diverse workforce and others, she has created a partnership with the University of Mainz, Germany to facilitate exchange among students and faculty.
Respected widely in the business community for her expertise, Dr. Luck consults and coaches in the areas of communications strategy, written and oral presentation skills, negotiation and conflict resolution, leadership, business etiquette, cross-departmental diversity, communications management and gender communications. A former television writer with freelance writing and editing credits on various topics, she last year published a book: Zen and the Art of Business Communications (Business Expert Press). Nonacademic pursuits include serving as a certified arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and a certified mediator for the North Carolina Superior Court.
“Summer commencement reminds us of the extraordinary commitment and sacrifice required of adult learners working hard to balance careers and families as they work toward completing graduate and undergraduate degrees,” said Dr. Colleen Perry Keith, president. “Susan Luck’s longstanding dedication to Pfeiffer’s adult student population is sure to resonate as she conveys her experience, drive and passion to our graduates as they transition to the next chapters of their lives.”
Dr. Luck holds a doctorate from the University of South Carolina, master’s degree from UNC Charlotte and bachelor’s degree from Queens University. She is a member of Association for Business Communication, American Communication Association, Association of Professional Communication Consultants, Plain Language Group and Grammar Geeks.
