February 17, 2019 (Misenheimer, N.C.) - Pfeiffer University is saddened to share that Dr. Colleen Perry Keith, Pfeiffer's tenth and first female President, will be leaving her post as of May 31, 2019, to become the next President at Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Delaware.

"It is always tough to make this kind of decision. Great things are happening at Pfeiffer, and there is a strategy in place that will take the University into the next phase of success," says Dr. Keith. A driving force behind this decision is family. "Being in Delaware will put us less than two hours from my son."

The Pfeiffer University Board of Trustees will be working to identify the next steps related to filling this vital position at Pfeiffer. "We are going to miss Dr. Keith, but we have a strong board and strong team that will keep Pfeiffer moving forward. This kind of change in leadership at this point in an organization's success is not uncommon," shared Pfeiffer Board of Trustees Chairman, Bob Brietz.

Dr. Keith came to Pfeiffer in July 2015. Under her leadership, Pfeiffer took several strategic steps to lay the foundation for a secure financial future. These steps include the sale and move of the Charlotte campus; moving athletics from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division III; refinancing of debt and program to borrow from the USDA for capital upgrades on the Misenheimer campus and to create a building for the University’s graduate health science programs in downtown Albemarle; increasing enrollment in the undergraduate program; and implementation of an up-to-date technological infrastructure in critical areas such as enrollment.

Working closely alongside Dr. Keith in these efforts has been the senior leadership team. “The Pfeiffer team is highly qualified, and the University is well positioned for the future,” says Dr. Keith. “I have appreciated the warm welcome I received from the communities that Pfeiffer is part of during my time here, and the collegial work of our Board at Pfeiffer. It’s always hard to leave ‘Pfamily,’ but I do so knowing Pfeiffer is in skillful hands."
