Why Pfeiffer

The Freshman Council, which is made up of representative from each Pfeiffer Journey class, was charged with forming a proposal for a spring service project. In addition to planning service opportunities for next semester, the council felt compelled to react to the disaster in the Northeast by coordinating a blood drive in response to the immediate need for blood.

Maximizing Harris's central and accessible campus location, renovations will allow the lecture hall to function as a centralized meeting space and classroom. New furnishings and adjustments to seating will enable users to effectively utilize presentation technology designed to promote exceptional student-faculty interaction and engagement.

During the ceremony, President Michael C. Miller announced that Stokes Construction of Albemarle, the project's contractor, had donated $25,000 to the Nursing program, earning a naming opportunity for one of several new faculty offices located on that floor. Stokes Construction joins a number of other individual, corporate and foundation donors whose names appear throughout the space.

Optional donations collected at the door will benefit the Madagascar Fund, recently established by Pfeiffer students to support the educational and practical needs of school children in Madagascar, Africa, a country frequently visited by Biology Professor Dr.

In addition, two gifts from Pfeiffer University alumni, each for $20,000, will support other renovations to Harris Science Hall to enhance the experience of Nursing students. Harold '63 and Mary Earnhardt '64 Eagle will support a labor and delivery patient care station that will bear their name. And an observation room on the unit will be named in memory of Peggy R.

The residents of the newly renovated Vaughn Hall had an opportunity on Aug. 26 to meet and thank those who contributed the $315,000 to make the upgrades and new furniture possible. Dozens of students, staff, donors and alumni attended a ceremonious ribbon-cutting and open house event that allowed the donors to tour the residence hall and to meet its residents.

The "Pfight" began on Jan. 25, with a dedication and blessing service attended by students, faculty and staff in the Henry Pfeiffer Chapel. Two-time breast cancer survivor Cindy Loflin, director of purchasing at Pfeiffer and Stanly County resident, shared her personal and courageous story.
