Pfeiffer university is a pedestrian campus. Vehicle registration allows students, faculty and staff to park on the misenheimer campus. Commuting by vehicle on campus is not permitted. Commuter students may enter and exit campus to park. Any persons commuting by vehicle on campus may be issued a safety violation.

All residential students, commuter students, faculty, staff and any other persons attending University classes must register their vehicles with the Misenheimer Police Department through FalCon.
- Parking decals for residential and commuter students are purchased at the beginning of every Fall semester, for each academic year. Parking decals are not required for summer sessions. If a permit is purchased during the academic year it is not prorated. The cost is $75.00.
- Requirements for vehicle registration are:
a. Vehicle registration certification,
b. Payment of registration cost:
- Students - $75.00 academic year
- Faculty/Staff - No charge
c. Know if you will be commuting, living on North Campus or South Campus
Note: There is no refund of vehicle registration fees for any reason.
- Student decals shall be displayed on the left side (driver’s side) of the rear bumper, or displayed on the lower left corner of the rear window. If a permit is not displayed properly the vehicle is not considered registered.
- Additional vehicles may be registered for $37.50 per vehicle, per semester. The fee for replacing a lost or stolen decal is $5.
- When multiple vehicles are registered only (1) one vehicle is allowed on campus at any given time.
- NO STORAGE TRAILERS or UTILITY TRAILERS ARE ALLOWED ON CAMPUS.
- No boats or recreational vehicles are allowed on campus.

Parking And Traffic Regulations
Common sense plays an important part when parking on campus. It would be impossible for Pfeiffer University to mark every area with signs that advise where you can and cannot park. Parking spaces are generally clearly marked by two parallel white lines; vehicles are to park between these lines. If the parking area is graveled or lines are not present drivers should park with consideration to others in an attempt to place as many vehicles in a lot as possible.
- North Carolina Motor Vehicle Laws will be enforced.
- The campus-wide speed limit is 15 miles per hour except where slower speed is essential for safety.
- There will be no parking in or on:
a. No parking zones
b. Loading/delivery zones
c. Fire zones
d. Sidewalks or walkways
e. Any 24-hour restricted lot or space, without proper authorizationf. Grass or grounds
g. “Handicapped Parking" spaces if the vehicle does not display a legitimate State "Handicapped" placard or a Pfeiffer University "Handicapped" permit (obtainable at the Police Department)
h. Any area designated as “No Parking" or "No Vehicle" area by signs or pavement markings
i. Any street or driveway (in case of emergency you must turn on your flashers and notify Campus Police)
- The following is not allowed on campus:
a. Using more than one parking space per vehicle
b. Parking too far from the curb
c. Obstructing an entrance to a building
d. Parking in front of a fire hydrant
- Ignorance of the law is no excuse for improper or illegal parking.
- Resident students that are placed on disciplinary probation may have their parking privileges taken away.
- Vehicles are not to be washed or serviced on campus.
- All vehicles must come to a complete stop at all stop signs located on campus.
- Pedestrians always have the right-of-way when crossing the street at intersections and crosswalks.
- Unnecessary noise from horns, mufflers and radios is strictly prohibited.
- Anyone found possessing a permit for which he/she is not entitled, or transferring a permit from one vehicle to another, may have his/her parking privileges revoked.
- Under no circumstance will there be pleasure riding on campus. Pfeiffer is a pedestrian campus and vehicles must remained parked unless vacating campus.
Temporary/Visitor parking permits are available without charge at the Office of Campus Safety and Police for guests, visitors, and others for whom permanent registration is inappropriate. Temporary/Visitor permits must be hung on the rearview mirror whenever the vehicle is parked on campus. The permit should be removed from the rearview mirror whenever the vehicle is in motion. These permits may be valid for up to one week. A visitor will be defined as any person who is not presently attending a class or function that meets regularly on campus. A visitor permit is not needed if a guest or visitor is staying on campus between 4:00 p.m. Friday and 8:00 a.m. Monday.
All vehicles bearing a valid Pfeiffer University parking decal are allowed to park 24 hours a day year-round on the Pfeiffer University Campus in the appropriate designated lot. Faculty and Staff members may park in all parking areas. Parking spaces marked “RESERVED” will be designated for Faculty and Staff, Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00 am - 5:00pm. Commuter students displaying BLUE parking permits will be allowed to park in any available student parking lot. North residential students displying YELLOW parking permits will be allowed to park in student lots on North campus only. Residential students living on South Campus will display a BLACK parking permit and will be allowed to park in designated lots on south campus. Students parking in areas other than designated will receive a campus citation for Parking in a Reserved Space. There will be no parking on the grass for any reason. Emergency flashers may be used for 15 minutes when loading and unloading your vehicle. The use of flashers does not exempt you from receiving a ticket for impeding traffic or parking on the grass.
Campus Parking Citations
Persons that violate University parking policies may receive a parking citation. Fines for violations must be paid within two weeks (14 calendar days) upon receipt of a ticket. Payment can be mailed to: Pfeiffer University Business Office, PO Box 960, Misenheimer, NC 28109. Please make checks payable to Pfeiffer University. Any person failing to pay an imposed fine will be subject to one or all of the following:
- Revocation of parking privileges
- Withheld grades and/or transcripts
- Unpaid fines billed to the student's account
The fines for all parking, moving, safety, or other violations will be clearly marked on the citation. Continued flagrant violation of these parking and traffic regulations will be cause for the University to revoke an individual's parking privileges. Students receiving sin (6) or more paid or unpaid parking/moving violation tickets within an academic year may be subject to having their parking privileges revoked and their vehicle towed at the owner's expense.
If you wish to appeal a ticket, you must fill out and return to the Chief of Misenheimer Police an appeal form. These forms are located at the Police Department and Campus Printing Office. A citation will not be voided for the following reason:
- Ignorance of the law
- No parking sign
- No marking on pavement
The University reserves the right to remove any vehicle that has:
- Parked in such a way as to constitute a serious hazard.
- Impeded vehicular/pedestrian traffic or the operation of emergency equipment.
- Received in excess of 10 parking citations.
- Parked in a restricted area that has been designated by notice, tape, rope, or any type of barricade.
Owners are required to pay all costs incurred during the removing, impounding and storing of such vehicles. Pfeiffer University is not responsible for any damages, loss, or theft due to a vehicle being towed.
Every reasonable effort will be made to contact the owner of the vehicle before the vehicle is towed; however, if the owner cannot be contacted within fifteen (15) minutes from the time a Campus Police Officer is aware of the violation, the vehicle may be towed.
Special Event Parking

All persons attending weddings, sporting and theatrical events, and any other event that offers parking on campus will utilize the parking lot closest to the event or areas designated by the police department. The individual in charge of the event is responsible for notifying Chief Wyrick that the event is taking place and that there will be cars parking on campus that will not be registered.
To insure that your guests and visitors do not get ticketed for Non-Registration, and to assist the police department in identifying unknown vehicles on campus, please follow these rules:
- If you are having an event on the weekend, a parking permit is not needed. Officers will not write parking tickets for non-registration from 4:00 p.m. Friday to 8:00 a.m. Monday.
- If you have visitors, guests, or an event on campus, please follow these guidelines:
- For all special parking needs, please fill out an “Event Parking Form” located in the campus Printing Office. This will assist the police department in identifying the individual needs of a campus event.
- If the event will not last more than five consecutive days and will have an attendance of less than 20 people, parking permits will be given to the person sponsoring the event by the Campus Police department for distribution to the persons attending.
- If you have a one-day program where the attendance is larger than 20 people, police officers will not ticket for non-registration during the time period specified for the event.
- If you are going to have a program that lasts longer than a week, and is not a scheduled class, special parking permits will be given to you for distribution to the attendees of the event. There may be a minimal fee to pay for administrative processing and cost of the decals (Campus activities involving voluntary participation of community members will be exempt from this fee).
If you have special requirements for a large event and additional officers(s) are needed to direct traffic or work security, the Chief of Police will contact the sponsor upon receipt of the “Event Parking Form” and discuss what will be needed for the event. The sponsor of the event will be responsible for paying the officer(s) that work the event (The Chief of Police will determine the total number of officers needed).
Visitor and Handicapped Parking Spaces
All areas that are marked either Visitor or Handicapped are restricted 24 hours a day year-round.
General Parking Information
- Vehicles are considered parked when left unattended for any period of time.
- A parking permit does not guarantee the holder a reserved space, but only an opportunity to park within a specified area.
- The responsibility of finding a legal parking space rests with the vehicle operator. The person registered, as the purchaser of the decal, shall be responsible for the violations incurred by the vehicle.
- Lack of space is not a valid excuse for illegal parking.
- The fact that a person may park or observe others parked in violation of the regulations without receiving a citation does not mean that the regulations can be ignored.
- Pfeiffer University assumes no responsibility for the care and/or protection of any vehicle or its contents at any time it is either parked or operated on campus. Valuables should be secured in the trunk of your vehicle. Thefts should be reported to the Campus Police Department.
- For your convenience, Police Officers are on duty 24 hours a day.
A Brief Summary of a Few of the Most Misunderstood Rules and Regulations
- Traffic regulations are subject to being enforced 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
- Students are responsible for their visitors and will be held financially responsible for citations issued to vehicles traced to family members.
- Vehicles loading or unloading must leave vehicle flashers on and/or a note on the windshield; Fifteen minutes is permitted for loading/unloading unless otherwise approved.
- Disabled vehicles must be reported to the Police Department either in person or by phone. Notes are not acceptable.
- A vehicle is not registered until the decal or permit is properly displayed on the vehicle. The registration decal is not transferable. It shall not be affixed to or otherwise transferred to any vehicle other than the vehicle to which it is registered.
- Any vehicle parked at a fire hydrant, on any grassed area, or in any traveled portion of a street, parking lot, or fire lane may be towed at the owner's expense.
- Motorcycle drivers and passengers must wear helmets on campus as required by NC State law.
- No person shall ride in other than designated passenger areas (i.e., the outside of an automobile or bed of a pick-up truck).
Crime Statistics and Dissemination Policy
The following information is compiled in accordance with federal regulations for both the University and all persons that are affiliated with the University. This information is open to the public and all persons are encouraged to read this material and ask questions. Printed materials are distributed on campus and available to prospective students and others. Community members are made aware of recent crimes and crime trends on or around the university campus by police department personel by use of the university police information board, informational fliers, Contact Now timely notifications, social media and the university email system. All of these statistics are updated and disseminated annually to the University community, potential students, and others who request them.

While theses statistics reflect the relative safety and security of the Pfeiffer campus, it is imperative that all members of the campus community actively assist in reporting problems and incidents so that the quality of the environment may be maintained.
The following definitions of these crimes are based on the FBI's Uniform Crime Report.
Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter-The willful (non-negligent) killing of one human being by another.
Negligent Manslaughter-The killing of another person through gross negligence.
Forcible Sex Offenses-Any sexual act directed against another person, forcible or against that person’s will. This includes forcible rape, forcible sodomy, sexual assault with an object, and forcible fondling.
Robbery-The taking, or attempting to take, of anything of value under confrontational circumstances from the control, custody, or care of another person or persons by force or threat of force or violence and/or by putting the victim in fear of immediate harm.
Aggravated Assault-An unlawful attack by one person upon another for the purpose of inflicting severe or aggravated bodily injury. This type of assault usually is accompanied by the use if a weapon or by the means likely to produce death or great bodily harm. (It is not necessary that injury result from an aggravated assault when a gun, knife, or other weapon is used which could and probably would result in serious personal injury if the crime were successfully completed.)
Burglary-The unlawful (forced or non-forced) entry of a structure or building to commit a felony or a theft. For reporting purposes this definition includes: unlawful entry with intent to commit a larceny or felony; breaking and entering with intent to commit a larceny; housebreaking; safecracking; and all attempts to commit any aforementioned.
Motor Vehicle Theft-The theft or attempted theft of a motor vehicle. (Classify as motor vehicle theft cases where automobiles are taken by persons not having lawful access even though the vehicles are later abandoned, including joyriding.)
Arson-Any willful or malicious burning or attempt to burn, with or without intent to defraud, a dwelling house, public building, motor vehicle or aircraft, personal property of another, etc.
Arrests for Liquor Law violations-The violations of laws or ordinances prohibiting the manufacture, sale, purchase, transportation, possession of intoxicating liquor; maintaining unlawful drinking places; bootlegging; operating a still; furnishing liquor to a minor or intemperate person; using a vehicle for illegal transportation of liquor; drinking on a train or public conveyance; and all attempts to commit any of the aforementioned. (Does not include "driving under the influence" or "drunkenness.")
Arrests for Drug Abuse Violations-Violations of State and local laws relating to the unlawful possession, sale, use, growing, manufacturing, and making of narcotic drugs. The relevant substances include: opium or cocaine and their derivatives (morphine, heroin, codeine); marijuana; synthetic narcotics (Demerol, methadone); and dangerous non-narcotic drugs (barbiturates, Benzedrine).
Arrests for Weapons Possessions-The violation of laws or ordinances dealing with weapon offenses, regulatory in nature, such as: manufacture, sale, or possession of deadly weapons; carrying deadly weapons, concealed or openly; furnishing deadly weapons to minors; aliens possessing deadly weapons; and all attempts to commit any of the aforementioned.
Disciplinary Referrals for Weapon Law Violations-The violation of laws or ordinances dealing with weapon offenses, regulatory in nature, such as: manufacture, sale, or possession of deadly weapons; carrying deadly weapons, concealed or openly; furnishing deadly weapons to minors; aliens possessing deadly weapons; and all attempts to commit any of the aforementioned.
Disciplinary Referrals for Drug Abuse Violations-Violations of some midemeanor State and local laws relating to the unlawful possession, sale, use, growing, manufacturing, and making of narcotic drugs. No felonious violations will be referred for disciplinary actions only. The relevant substances include: opium or cocaine and their derivatives (morphine, heroin, codeine); marijuana; synthetic narcotics (Demerol, methadone); and dangerous non-narcotic drugs (barbiturates, Benzedrine).
Disciplinary Referrals for Liquor Law Violations-The violation of laws or ordinances prohibiting: the manufacture, sale, transporting, furnishing, possessing of intoxicating liquor; maintaining unlawful drinking places; bootlegging; operating a still; furnishing liquor to a minor or intemperate person; using a vehicle for illegal transportation of liquor; drinking on a train or public conveyance; and all attempts to commit any of the aforementioned. Safety on Campus
The university makes every effort to promote safety and reduce criminal opportunity.
The Misenheimer Police Department makes every effort to keep the community safe, but your actions can determine whether or not you are the victim of a crime. If you observe unsafe conditions be sure to contact Police or the Director of Facilities as soon as possible. The following are a few guidelines that can help you keep safe:

Don't Walk Alone. The Misenheimer Police Department provides escorts 24 hours a day year-round. To request an escort dial either (704) 463-3000 from a non-campus phone or ext. 3000 from a campus phone. Be sure to give the officer a phone number so he/she can notify you in case there is an emergency in progress that might delay the response.
Residence Halls And Apartments
- Keep all doors locked when you are out of your room or asleep.
- Do not remove screens from your windows.
- If you observe a stranger walking around inside the residence hall without an escort or lingering around outside, call the Police Department immediately.
- Never attach identification information to your key ring.
- If you lose your room key or building key, notify Police and Student Development immediately.
- Do not wedge open entrance or stairwell doors.
- Never loan your hall or room keys to anyone.
- Be familiar with all emergency procedures and fire exits.
- If you return to your room and notice that it has been broken into, do not go into the room. Notify the Police Department immediately.
- Solicitors are not permitted in the halls. If one comes to your door, contact the Police Department.
- Never leave anything in the lobby or hallways unattended. It only takes a few seconds for a thief to steal your possessions.
- Keep your shades closed while dressing.
Safety About Campus
- Don’t walk alone. Call for an escort.
- If you observe or hear anything strange contact the Police Department immediately.
- If you observe a strange vehicle on campus write down the description of the vehicle and its license plate number, and contact the Police Department immediately.
- Avoid remaining in a building alone. If you realize that everyone else has left the building, call a friend to keep you company.
- If you are being harassed by anyone on campus, get to a phone. If during the day, go to the closest office and contact the Police Department.
- Stay in well-lit areas when walking at night.
- When walking off campus, always walk with a friend.
- Never walk off-campus after dark.
- Using athletic fields after dark is prohibited.
- When walking to your vehicle or hall, have your keys in hand.
Whistle Safety Program
Whistles are offered to new students, when available.
Misenheimer police officers will utilize multimedia to record crimes and misconduct on campus. The findings can be used to settle the violation in campus and criminal court.
Severe Weather Conditions
In cases of severe weather, it is important that you know what to do for your safety. The Police will notify the residence hall and other campus staff.
Follow all directions given to them by university officials during dangerous weather. If evacuating residence halls is necessary, students will be directed to the basements of the Library and of Harris Science Building.
Officers have authority to write North Carolina state citations and Pfeiffer University campus citations. If you receive a state citation, it must be dealt with at the Stanly County Court House located in Albemarle, NC. If you receive a campus citation for misconduct, payment must be submitted within two weeks to the Pfeiffer Business Office. To appeal the campus citation, an appeal letter must be submitted to the Chief of Police within two weeks of receiving the citation. Appeals will not be accepted after two weeks.
A person under the age of twenty-one may not purchase, attempt to purchase, or possess alcoholic beverages. This includes malt beverages, fortified or unfortified wine, liquor or mixed drinks. Giving your identification to someone else to purchase or attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages is also illegal. Alcohol is prohibited in all public areas on campus. If you are abusing alcohol please seek counseling immediately.
The University adheres strictly to federal and state laws governing the possession, distribution, or consumption of drugs or other controlled substances. Any person illegally possessing, distributing, or using such drugs or controlled substances will be subject to criminal prosecution. If you are using illegal drugs, or abusing prescription or over the counter drugs, please seek counseling immediately.
State law and departmental regulation govern the use of weapons by University officers. Officers shall use their firearms only to protect their lives or the life of another when there is a clear and immediate danger to life, or to prevent grievous injury to themselves or another when a clear and present danger exists. The use or possession of firearms or other weapons by anyone while on campus is not permitted even if such persons possess a North Carolina concealed weapons permit. If police officers from an outside agency are attending classes on campus, and are not in uniform, and are not within their jurisdictional boundaries, they are not to possess weapons on campus. If you become aware that a person has a weapon on campus, do not approach them, notify police immediately.
Counseling is available on for all persons that need assistance. If you do not feel comfortable with seeking assistance on campus please contact an outside agency for help (Crisis Council Inc. 24 Hour Crisis Line 1-(800)-551-5497 or (704) 985-1966).
Sexual Assault and/or Harassment:
Sexual Assault and Harassment are very serious crimes that should not go unreported. If you do not report it to the Police department be sure to report it to someone of authority on campus. If you are a victim of a sexual assault try to remember these rules:
- Contact the Police immediately.
- Do not take a shower or douche
- Do not wash the clothes or bedding on which the incident may have occurred. Put all articles of clothing that you had on during the assault in a paper bag.
- Try to write down what the assailant looked like and any other information that might be important to the police.
- If the attack occurs off campus contact the local law enforcement agency where the attack occurred.
- Even if you do not report a sexual attack, be sure to seek medical treatment and counseling.
These few rules are very important when trying to convict a suspect.
- If you are a victim of sexual harassment contact the police and fill out a report. A person cannot be convicted of harassment unless each incident is documented.
- Both sexual assault and harassment are very serious. If you are a victim of one of these crimes and do not report it, you are not only hurting yourself but the next person that is attacked.
- Blind (Anonymous) Reporting of Sexual Assaults:
- The police department offers blind (anonymous) reporting of any sexual assault that occurs on or around campus. It is required by Clery Act (formerly the Campus Security Act) that any faculty or staff member (clergy and counselors excluded) with knowledge of a sexual assault that occurred on or near campus (whether or not the victim was a student) is required to report it to campus police immediately.
- You can report the assault by using the blind reporting form.
Domestic Violence Orders
If you have a Domestic Violence Order issued, the Police Department must be notified and have a copy of the order so it may be enforced.
If you have an order issued please contact the Chief of Police as soon as possible at ext. 2567.
Sexual Assault Victim’s Bill Of Rights:
If a sexual assault does occur the victim has the following rights:
- Both accuser and accused have the right to have others present during any questioning.
- Both parties will be informed of the outcome of any disciplinary proceeding.
- The survivor has the option of reporting the assault to law enforcement or handling the disciplinary actions through the campus judicial system.
- Counseling is available on campus through Health and Counseling Services for all persons that need assistance. If you do not feel comfortable with seeking assistance on campus please contact an outside agency for help (Crisis Council Inc. 24 Hour Crisis Line 1-800-551-5497) or (704) 985-1966).
- In severe situations if the survivor needs to change the academic or living environment the University will utilize all avenues to accommodate the survivor. This will be coordinated through the Dean of Student Development.
Reporting Crimes and Incidents
Members of the Village and University community are urged to notify the Police Department immediately of any criminal activity or other emergency that occurs within the incorporated limits of Misenheimer, including the University. Police officers will respond quickly and initiate whatever action is necessary to resolve the emergency, including the activation of outside police, fire, or medical agencies when appropriate. The emergency telephone number off-campus is 911 and on campus is ext. 9-911 (Stanly County Communications). For all other calls dial extension 3000 if on the campus of Pfeiffer University and (704) 986-3700 off-campus. All crimes reported to the police department will be investigated until an arrest is made, leads are exhausted, or the victim refuses to prosecute or cooperate. Reports will be used to calculate annual statistical information.
Reporting Of Crime Off-Campus
The campus community will also be notified within forty-eight hours of the University being aware of any crime of a severe nature that takes place near campus or at off-campus functions that are sponsored by Pfeiffer.
Notification of campus crime and dissemination of campus security statistics:
- A log of campus crime will be posted on the campus safety board the first week of every month. This log will indicate what crimes have taken place the month prior to the posting. If a crime of a severe nature occurs a notice will be posted within forty-eight hours after being reported.
- The Clery information will be disseminated in the following formats:
a) In a complete book with extensive information including charts and graphs. The book will be given to the President, Vice President for Institutional Research, Dean of Student Development, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Admissions Office.
b) In a pamphlet that will be handed out at registration; copies will also be kept in key offices around campus so the community can obtain the information anytime during the year.c) Safety and Statistical Information is also located at the Pfeiffer University Web Site (www.pfeiffer.edu).
The police department will be responsible for the scheduling of fire drills, and fire inspections. We are also responsible for ensuring that fire extinguishers are charged and placed in the residence halls and other University buildings, maintaining evacuation plans in all campus buildings, and periodic checks of emergency lighting. Any faulty equipment will be reported to the Facilities Department for repair and documentation of that report available for review if needed.
If there is a fire in any building on campus, the most important rule to remember is remain calm. By following these rules, you can save your life and also the lives of others.
- If you discover a fire on your floor or if you see or smell smoke which indicates the presence of a fire, report it immediately by dialing 9-911.
- Upon indication that there is a fire in the building, stay calm and exit the building as quickly as possible. If you encounter smoke, crawl on your hands and knees to the closest exit.
- If you are in your room:
Check the door to see if it is warm; if it is not:
1. Take warm clothes
2. Open your shades
3. Close but do not lock your door
If the door is hot, perform the following:
1. Stuff the base of the door with a towel or garment
2. Open the window and signal for help
3. If you are above the first floor, if at all possible, do not jump from the window try to wait for help
4. If you must exit the room from the window, tie your sheets together and climb down
- If you pass a fire alarm as you exit the building, do your best to activate the alarm.
- Go to the closest stairwell and get out of the building; never use an elevator.
- Once out of the building, call the fire department and Police immediately.
- Stay at least 100 feet from the building.
- Do not re-enter the building until instructed by the Fire Chief or Police.
Only use a fire extinguisher if there is a small fire. Do not try to extinguish a fire that is already out of control. If you believe that a fire extinguisher will work, follow these rules:
- Do not attempt to extinguish a fire yourself until an alarm has been triggered.
- Pull the pin at the top of the handle.
- Aim the hose at the base of the fire.
- Activate the fire extinguisher and sweep the base of the fire.
- The fire department needs to be notified of the fire as soon as possible.
- If you are able to put out the fire, notify Police immediately.
- If you observe a fire extinguisher missing or needing service, contact campus police immediately.
- Police Officers check fire extinguishers monthly to ensure proper operation and location.
In the event of a fire alarm, all residents are required to vacate the building. The Fire Department is not able to clear alarms and allow residents back into the building until all residents have vacated. Even if you are sure the alarm is a false one, you must leave the building. Students who refuse to leave or attempt to hide to avoid vacating the building will be charged with a Code of Conduct violation or cited on a campus citation. Evacuation plans will be reviewed in the first hall meeting and fire plans will be posted on each floor. Be sure to acquaint yourself with emergency escape routes in your building.
Fire drills are conducted each month of the Fall and Spring semester in every hall at various times during the evening, and once after midnight per semester. This is in accordance with North Carolina state law, to ensure that all residents are familiar with evacuation procedures and to ensure that all safety equipment is functional. During a fire drill, every student MUST evacuate the building and follow emergency procedures and Police or Residence Life Staff instructions. Failure to exit a building during a fire drill may lead to serious campus actions.
Fire Safety Equipment
Fire equipment is placed in the residence halls for students’ protection and the protection of property in the event of a fire or emergency. Anyone who causes damage to this equipment or who renders it unusable or ineffective is endangering the safety of all residents. If a student is involved with the misuse or tampering of any fire safety equipment, tampering with smoke detectors or fire alarm bells, including setting off false fire alarms, the student will be subject to penalties described by State and Federal laws as well as University judicial action. Costs for missing or discharged fire extinguishers will be charged to all building residents if the individuals responsible cannot be identified.
Open flames of any kind (specifically candles, incense, and oil lamps) are prohibited in your residence hall room in conjunction with fire safety regulations. Candles and incense are particularly dangerous as they are easily tipped over or forgotten when residents leave the room. In addition, their flames are easily wind blown and can damage clothing, curtains and carpet. Halogen lamps are also prohibited because they generate excessive heat and are a fire hazard.
Educate, Protect and Serve
The department will sponsor crime, rape and personal safety classes throughout the academic year. These classes are open to all students, faculty, staff, as well as the outside community. There will be no charge (except occasionally for materials) for anyone attending, and the community will be notified by flyers posted within the Village.
The following programs are currently being sponsored:
- Fire and Crime Prevention Programs -These programs are intended to increase awareness and prevent incidents from occuring on the Misenheimer campus. The best deterant is prevention, and the police department strives to make each Pfeiffer community member more aware of their surroundings.
- Rape Awareness Programs - The Misenheimer Police Department and other local agencies are invited to speak to students and community members about sexual assault and how to deal with it.
- Alcohol Awareness - The campus police department offers training and educational sessions concerning drinking and driving in North Carolina in conjunction with the Pfeiffer University Alcohol Awareness Task Force. Alcohol Educational Training may be assigned to students as a result of a campus judicial sanction.
- Information Board - The MPD Information Board is located in the Student Center and posts safety information and information about current crimes that have taken place on campus or in the surrounding area. The Information Board is just one way the MPD comforms with the Clery Act.
- Traffic Safety Officer and Defense Driver Training - The department was awarded several grants from the N.C. Governor's Highway Safety Program to fund a Traffic Safety Officer and traffic safety equipment. As part of the grant, the department sponsors several traffic safety training courses throughout the year and is responsible for all parking issues on campus. - Misenheimer Police Sponsored Events - The police department often coordinates programs for faculty and staff, students and the general public. These programs range in topic from "Refuse to be a Victim" to "Fatal Vision," a DWI awareness training. - Village of Misenheimer Community/Campus Watch Program - In line with the department's commitment to community oriented law enforcement we established a Community Watch Program in the Spring of 2004. To recieve more information in reference to community watch please contact Chief McGinnis.
