Pfeiffer University Exemplary Teaching Award

Sponsored by the General Board of United Methodist Higher Education and Pfeiffer University

This award, sponsored by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of The United Methodist Church, is based on demonstration of exceptional teaching, recognized concern for students and colleagues and sensitivity to the mission of the church-related university, a record of significant contributions to the scholarly life of the university, and a commitment to high standards of professional and personal life.  Faculty members selected for this award should embody a strong commitment and approach to exceptional teaching and academic stewardship of the University.

Selection Criteria:
•    Full-time Faculty member employed at Pfeiffer University more than 3 years
•    Excellence in Teaching as demonstrated by the testimony and lives of former and current students
•    Civility and concern for students and colleagues
•    Commitment to a value-centered education
•    Exceptional service to Students, University and Community and Discipline specific profession

Nomination Process:
Nominations should be clear, concise, well written and address how the faculty member embodies the characteristics listed in the selection criteria.  The nomination should be no more than 3-5 pages in length and submitted in confidence to the Office of Academic Affairs.  In addition to the nomination letter submitted, additional materials to include copies of student evaluations, vitae and additional references to document the candidate's credentials will also be collected.  The award will be selected by the President and Provost of the University and previous year's winners.  Candidates will be presented the award during commencement exercises. Nominations should be submitted by March 5, 2013.

Recognition
The recipient will be recognized in the following ways:

  1. Cash Prize
  2. The nominees and recipient will be announced at Graduation.
  3. The Public Relations staff will send a news release to the local media (including newspapers, radio stations, and local television stations).
  4. A profile and picture of the recipient will appear in the appropriate Pfeiffer University publications.
  5. Recent winners of the award will be listed under faculty awards in the Pfeiffer University course catalog.

*Note: Please note that this award is a one-time career award and former winners are not eligible for re-nomination.
