Dianne Daniels, award winning nurse, leads department to great success

Dianne Daniels stands out in Pfeiffer University's Division of Health-Related Programs, so as the chair of the Nursing Department, she has seen much success, both personally and for the nursing program.
In October, the department was recognized as a North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA) Hallmarks Healthy Workplace. This designation recognizes workplaces that form positive environments for nurses in North Carolina. According to Dr. Daniels, this distinction puts Nursing â€œon the right trackâ€ from its early stages and can also be used as a recruitment and retention tool for prospective students and faculty.
Pfeiffer professor recognized for research on declining lion population

Dr. Luke Dollar, professor of biology at Pfeiffer, National Geographic Explorer, and grants program director for their Big Cats Initiative (causeanuproar.org), was recently recognized for publication of research that explores the declining lion population in Africa. Dr. Dollar, who is well known for his extensive research on the fosa in Madagascar, collaborated with over 50 coauthors and contributors for this project on lions and their habitats, including scientists from University of California, Davis, Duke University and Yale University.
Freshmen to sponsor blood drive to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy

On Dec. 6 from 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the Stokes Student Center Community Room, the freshman class will sponsor a blood drive to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims.
Students travel to Duke University to participate in research symposium

On Sat., Nov. 17, a group of students and faculty from the Division of Arts and Sciences attended the State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research & Creativity Symposium (SNCURCS) at Duke University in Durham, N.C. SNCURCS is an annual symposium that showcases multidisciplinary undergraduate research and creative scholarship from all institutes of higher education across the state.
Pfeiffer University performance ensembles and Stanly County Concert Band present: A Village Christmas

The performance ensembles of Pfeiffer University and members of the Stanly County Concert Band will present A Village Christmas in two performances on Sun., Dec. 2 at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Henry Pfeiffer Chapel, 48380 Hwy 52N, Misenheimer. The community is invited to these free concerts.
Dr. Luke Dollar to speak at Stanly Community College, Nov. 20

Dr. Luke Dollar, associate professor of biology, is the guest speaker for the 2012 Stanly Community College Foundation Lecture Series on Tues., Nov. 20, 7 p.m., Kelley Building, Dennis Auditorium. The event is free to the public.
A National Geographic Explorer, Dr. Dollar coordinates conservation, research and development programs throughout Madagascar, having logged more than eight of the past 18 calendar years studying carnivores there. His scientific research focuses primarily on the ecology of Madagascar's carnivores, particularly its largest predator, the fossa. His work has yielded significant data on fossa biology and behavior.
Bluegrass performance to kick off day of activity at Pfeiffer

On Sat., Nov. 17, Pfeiffer University will hold Bluegrass Music on the Front Lawn, an event featuring bluegrass band OLDGRASS. The event will coincide with Falcon Preview Day Open House and will take place on the Pfeiffer lawn from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, and the show will be moved inside the chapel in the event of rain.

On Fri., Nov. 16, 10 a.m., Pfeiffer University welcomes Dr. Seamus Curran, associate professor of physics and director of the Institute for Nanotechnology, University of Houston, and CEO of C-Voltaics, manufacturer of nano-materials solutions in the fields of energy, protective coatings and nano-enabled plastics. Dr. Curran will be on campus to discuss and demonstrate C-Voltaics' latest innovation, the 2kW Storm Cell, a portable system for delivering solar energy.

Upgrades advance Pfeiffer's emerging role as a regional leader in health-related programs
The Charles A. Cannon Charitable Trusts, Concord, N.C., have awarded a $200,000 grant to Pfeiffer University, primarily for renovations to the lecture hall on the main floor of the Harris Science Building on its Misenheimer campus. Support for updating what is currently the campus's largest learning space includes integrating state-of-the art technology into its infrastructure to enhance the teaching and learning experience for faculty and students.
Pfeiffer senior Beth Kauffman honored for community service
