On Oct. 4, the Department of Nursing held its third annual White Coat Ceremony. The ceremony is designed to recognize junior-level students who have been accepted into the upper-level division of nursing, marking the transition from the lab and classroom to nursing care of real patients in hospitals and other healthcare settings.
"The white coat symbolizes professionalism," said Dr. Dianne Daniels, chair, department of nursing. "Receiving it is a milestone, and it means that the students are now assuming responsibility for the care of patients as they put theory into practice."
During her remarks, Dr. Daniels also recognized Caitlyn White, a junior who passed away earlier this year. Her mother accepted the coat on her behalf.
