Reverend G. Scott Middleton, CEO, Agapé Senior to address students, faculty and staff
On Fri., Sept. 6, Pfeiffer University will celebrate its annual Opening Academic Convocation with keynote speaker Reverend G. Scott Middleton, founder and CEO of Agapé Senior, South Carolina's premier senior health care provider, and a new member of Pfeiffer's board of trustees. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the Merner Center for Health and Physical Education on Pfeiffer's Misenheimer campus.
Traditionally, Academic Convocation is held early in the fall semester to formally welcome new students to Pfeiffer University. The event signals the beginning of students' academic careers and provides an opportunity to introduce themselves to the campus community.
"Convocation provides a reminder to students, faculty and staff that Pfeiffer upholds high standards for academic integrity and high expectations for sustaining them," said President Michael C. Miller. "Scott Middleton, who leads by example to maintain an exceptional level of ethical behavior in his personal and professional endeavors, reflects the high bar that Pfeiffer sets for everyone in our community."
Reverend Middleton, a practicing United Methodist minister, philanthropist and author of Parent Talk, The Nine Conversations You Need to Have with Your Aging Parents, founded Agapé Senior in 1999 as he sought a better way to serve seniors. With the purchase of an existing assisted living facility, he pioneered a model of integrated care designed to meet the needs of clients and other senior members of the community. From this beginning, Agapé Senior, a faith-based organization, has become an innovative, expanding company that has served more than 40,000 people and employs more than 2,000 health care professionals. It is also South Carolina's largest provider of hospice services.
Known for its state-of-the-art network of physician services, therapy, pharmacy, home care, hospice, ambulance and medical equipment services as well as numerous insurance and real estate interests that serve communities throughout South Carolina, Agapé Senior offers its clients high-quality assisted living facilities, patio homes, palliative pavilions and post-acute care centers that include on-site health and fitness centers, The Good Life Café natural foods restaurants, health and wellness studios and other services.
Through its charitable foundation, Agapé Senior not only supports its ministries through education and fundraising but provides assistance to its senior residents who outlive their resources and qualify for financial assistance. Since its inception, the Agapé Senior Foundation has given more than $5.5 million for this purpose.
