Senior art student Annette Lowder was recently accepted into the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program. This scholarship provides awards for undergraduate college students in the United States who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding to participate in study abroad programs all over the world.
Annette's $3,500 scholarship will finance a study abroad opportunity to China from July 22-Aug. 19, where she will study at the Sanbao Ceramic Institute at Jingdezhen in the Jiangxi Province. Specifically, the focus of her study will be on kiln building, glaze making and traditional Chinese ceramic and porcelain techniques.
Annette, originally from Albemarle, N.C., transferred last year to Pfeiffer from Montgomery Community College in Troy, N.C., and has already impressed faculty and her peers with her exemplary work.
“Even though Annette has only recently arrived at Pfeiffer, she has already made quite a mark on our art program, winning both the Best of Show and Viewer's Choice Awards during our Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition this spring,†said Josh Cross, associate professor of art.
According to Annette, she is most looking forward to working with other potters from a variety of backgrounds and being immersed in a completely different culture.
While abroad, Annette will be blogging about her experiences. Read her blog here.
