“McEducators Night†features Pfeiffer faculty and administrators as servers
Pfeiffer University's freshman class will host “McEducators Night†on Tues., March 12, 4:30-8 p.m., at the McDonald's restaurant located at the corner of Route 49 and Route 52 in Richfield, N.C. During the event, which features members of Pfeiffer's faculty and administration as counter servers, a portion of each customer's receipt will support Special Olympics Stanly County, specifically for uniforms for its basketball team.
“The freshman council agreed unanimously to support the needs of local children who face challenges in daily living,†said Kimberly Goodell '16, freshman council representative. “We encourage everyone at Pfeiffer and throughout the entire community to plan to eat dinner at McDonald's that night to support Special Olympics Stanly County.â€
The fundraiser is organized as part of the Freshman Experience, an established Pfeiffer program designed to foster a positive transition to college life. In addition to classroom-based learning that includes discussions about study habits and learning styles as well as a reading experience and activities shared by the entire class, the program includes opportunities for students to develop into servant leaders through community service, a focus of the overall Pfeiffer experience.
“We're delighted that Pfeiffer's freshman class selected McDonald's as its partner for supporting Special Olympics because it is accessible to people in all of Stanly County,†said Kathy Odell, the organization's local coordinator and Pfeiffer's director of human resources. “Everyone in the area has the opportunity to help make a difference for a great group of athletes.â€
Ms. Odell is among the Pfeiffer administrators and faculty members scheduled to serve during McEducators Night. Others are Ross Braymer, assistant professor of mathematics; Deborah Burris, assistant professor of communications; Sarah Denton, coordinator of student organizations and ministries; Dr. Tracy Espy, provost and vice president of academic affairs; Robin Listerman, administrative assistant to the provost; Rebecca McQueen, director of residence life; Dana McKim, minister to the university; Paula Morris, administrative assistant for student development; Dr. Russ Sharples, dean of students and vice president for student affairs; Jason Smith, assistant athletic director and head coach for men's soccer; and Dr. Michael Thompson, professor of history.
Pfeiffer University will offer a free shuttle service between Stokes Student Center and McDonald's at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 7 p.m. Pfeiffer's mascot, Freddie the Falcon, will be on site at McDonald's for the fundraiser.
