Convocation officially kicks off 2012-13 academic year

Pfeiffer University officially kicked off the 2012-13 academic year on Fri., Sept. 7, with Convocation, featuring Robin Hayes, chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party and former Congressman for the U.S. House of Representatives from District 8. Mr. Hayes was introduced by his daughter and Pfeiffer trustee Winslow Hayes Galloway. President Mike Miller welcomed all Pfeiffer students, particularly freshman and transfer students, as they recited the university's honor code.
Mr. Hayes is president of the Cannon Charitable Trust and director of the Cannon Foundation, organizations that reflect the grantmaking interests of the Cannon Mills Company, for which his grandfather, Charles Albert Cannon, was president from the 1920s to 1960s. Mr. Hayes is also the past owner and operator of Mt. Pleasant Hosiery Mill in Mt. Pleasant, N.C.
