Writer Karen Nilsen will visit Pfeiffer University on Thurs., Feb. 23, 12:30 p.m. in Stokes Student Center, Room 208. She will be on campus to discuss her writing, her decision to publish independently and ways to market one's writing.
Ms. Nilsen, who suffered from insomnia as a child, learned to settle herself into sleep by imagining stories. Encouraged at age 14 by her mother to write down her stories, she persevered and has become an award-winning novelist, earning a 2nd place tie in the Ford Bend Writer's Guild 2008 Novel Contest and 5th place in the Writing Show 2008 First Chapter Contest, and serving as editor of the literary magazine Counterpoint from 2000-2001.
Her bibliography includes The Witch Awakening (2010), Tapestry Lion (2010); Phoenix Ashes (2011); and due in 2012, The Curious Fear of High and Lonely Places.
