Bob Carlin, Grammy nominated musician and author will appear on Pfeiffer University's Misenheimer campus on Fri., Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. in Henry Pfeiffer Chapel. The community is invited to this free event.
Carlin, who was featured earlier this month in the PBS special “Give Me the Banjo†for his knowledge of the development of the banjo and his “clawhammer†playing technique, will offer a lecture and demonstration of old-time music. After his presentation, Carlin will share in a jam session with students, faculty and friends.
“Bob's research on the banjo's heritage and other elements of old-time music serve as an excellent introduction to the interdisciplinary course, The American South, which will be offered to Pfeiffer students next spring,†said Steve Harrill, assistant professor of music, who will use Carlin's book, String Bands in the North Carolina Piedmont, as a text for the course.
Carlin is a principal organizer of The Banjo Project, “a cross-media cultural odyssey,†which includes the PBS documentary and a live stage multi-media performance. For more information about Bob Carlin and his work, visit www.bobcarlinmusic.com.
