The junior, who is also majoring in psychology, receives a $2,000 award and will be recognized during a special gala hosted by the North Carolina organization on Sept. 18 in Greensboro.
Dr. Dianne Daniels, assistant professor of nursing and chair of the Department of Nursing at Pfeiffer, also received special recognition from The Great 100. Daniels is named among this year's Great 100 nurses, a prestigious, peer-recognition award, for her work in the field of nursing.
Earlier this year, Muhirwa, was also a recipient of the North Carolina Nurse Scholars Program (NSP), a competitive and prestigious award. She and fellow pre-nursing classmate Hayley Rogers, of Albemarle, will receive $5,000 annually from NSP, which is a merit-based scholarship available to students who have chosen to enter the nursing profession.
The Great 100, Inc., which was founded in 1988, honors the nursing profession within North Carolina. The group recognizes the importance of registered nurses in diverse practice settings, positively impacts the image of nursing and nursing as a profession, acknowledges 100 North Carolina nurses annually who demonstrate excellence in practice and commitment to their profession and contributes funds for scholarships for registered nurse education. In the last twelve years $140,000 has been awarded for nursing scholarships.
