NC-ACTS! Overview

NC-ACTS! is an Americorps program of North Carolina Campus Compact (NCCC).  It is funded by a grant from the Corporation for National & Community Service to foster civic engagement on campuses, encourage collaborative relationships between campuses and their communities, and to connect individual students on NCCC Charter Member campuses to the national service movement and the state service network.

Student’s service is a link between higher education and the community.  NC-ACTS! volunteers gain a deeper understanding of complex social issues facing organizations and individuals.  Volunteers then take this civic engagement and service experiences with them as they move onto professional and personal pursuits.  Beginning in 2008-2009, the program is ONLY be open to Pfeiffer students who are student-teaching during one semester of the year or who are completing a practicum experience in the Marriage and Family Therapy Graduate program.

This program is available to all, without regard to race, color, national origin, disability, age, sex, sexual orientation, political affiliation, or religion.

What is the NC Campus Compact?

The North Carolina Campus Compact is a rapidly growing coalition of 36 college and university presidents established to encourage and support campus engagement in the community.  NCCC members campuses seek to involve students, faculty, and the entire campus in community service in order to fulfill higher education's most noble goals educating citizens, preparing tomorrow's leaders, and contributing to the life of America's communities.  Pfeiffer University has been a member of the compact since it's inception in 2002.

Where Do NC-ACTS! Americorps Members Serve?

The Francis Center values extensive partnerships in the local community to connect program participants with some of the most enjoyable and positive organizations in the area.  Our students in particular serve within local schools or counseling/human services organizations.  The Francis Center specifically encourages NC-ACTS! members to enage in service with one of Pfeiffer's designated partner organizations but we are always open to new possibilities and partnering opportunities if we don't have a site you are looking for.  Many times participants will find a service site that relates to his/her area of academic interest.  Without a doubt, participants value the relationships formed and developed with our valuable community partners as one of the greatest aspects of the NC-ACTS! program.  NC-ACTS! members must consider the AmeriCorps service prohibitions outlined here when considering placement sites.
