February was an exciting month at Pfeiffer University. We celebrated Black History Month by highlighting exceptional faculty, staff and students; welcomed Freedom Writers speaker Tiffony Jacobs to Misenheimer; and students in the Accounting Society began preparing taxes for University employees and students and the community. As March arrives, we are proud to announcement several upcoming events including the Heart of Grace Awards, MBA networking reception and church risk seminar.

Pfeiffer to honor service and philanthropy at the 2013 Heart of Grace Awards

HeartofGrace DoubleHeart 4On Thurs., April 25, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Pfeiffer University will host the annual Heart of Grace Awards at Pfeiffer's Charlotte campus, 4701 Park Rd., Charlotte, N.C.  28209.

The Heart of Grace Awards celebrates the achievements of select women whose lives and work embody a spirit of servant leadership in their communities and the world.

Plan, Prepare, Protect: Strengthening Safety in Ministry

Pfeiffer University will host a three-day seminar April 17-19 at its Charlotte, N.C., campus and Myers Park United Methodist Church for church and ministry leaders that provides education and resources for addressing and strengthening safety and managing risk in congregations and other ministry settings.  Plan, Prepare, Protect: Strengthening Safety in Ministry will prepare clergy as well as church business administrators, finance leaders and trustees to inform their congregations about security priorities, mitigate security risks and evaluate safety plans.

On Thurs., April 11, 6-8 p.m., the Master of Business Administration program will celebrate nearly 30 years in Charlotte by hosting a networking reception for MBA graduates, students and friends at the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, 330 Tryon Street, Charlotte 28202.

Freedom Writer Tiffony Jacobs speaks of overcoming adversity through determination

tiffony jacobsOn Mon., Feb. 18, original Freedom Writers member Tiffony Jacobs spoke at Henry Pfeiffer Chapel to a group of students, faculty and staff.

As a high school sophomore, Ms. Jacobs joined the Freedom Writers, a group of students in Ms. Erin Gruwell's English class at Wilson High School in Long Beach, Calif., who wrote anonymous journal entries about the challenges of living in their community. She found strength and determination to achieve a successful future through Ms. Gruwell's emphasis on Holocaust education.
