Dr. Colleen Perry Keith Named Pfeiffer's Next President
Dr. Colleen Perry Keith has been named the tenth president of Pfeiffer University. The announcement was made earlier today by Pfeiffer’s board of trustees. Dr. Keith, who has served since 2009 as president of Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC), Spartanburg, S.C., will begin her term at Pfeiffer on July 1.
Regarded throughout the field of higher education as a thoughtful and effective leader, Dr. Keith has achieved extensive and noteworthy administrative and fundraising success over the course of her career. In 2010, she was named South Carolina Career Woman of the Year by the South Carolina Business and Professionals Woman’s Foundation.
University Recognizes Legacy of Endowed Scholarship Donors
On Sun., Jan. 25, representatives and donors for Pfeiffer’s endowed scholarships gathered to celebrate their student recipients for the 2014-15 academic year. President Jerry Boone remarked on the extraordinary opportunity provided by those who provide scholarships to students pursuing a college education. “With over 90% of students receiving financial aid through scholarship support each year, the willingness of these individuals to make their time and resources available to our students is critical,” said Boone.
Cade Isley '15 Goes Beyond Boundaries
Cade Isley '15 came to Misenheimer to play basketball but his story is a perfect example of how students grow and go Beyond Boundaries at Pfeiffer University. In addition to his athletic achievements, Isley participated in Residence Life as a Residence Director, become a student ambassador, worked with the Admissions Department and been an active member in ministries, where he’s gone abroad on a mission trip.
Isley rebounded from a foot injury his freshman year to become a team captain as a junior. But a second surgery, this one to repair a torn ACL, ended his basketball career.
Pfeiffer University earns 2015 Community Engagement Classification
Pfeiffer University has been selected by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching to receive its 2015 Community Engagement Classification. This designation is among the highest honors a college or university can achieve in recognition for the impact of its community service and engagement efforts.
Pfeiffer, classified initially in 2008, is among 157 colleges and universities nationwide to be reclassified for this honor and is joined by 83 new institutions receiving the classification for the first time this year and 121 others that were named in 2010. It is one of six private universities in North Carolina –among a total of 18 universities statewide—to hold this distinction.
Arch Stokes to Address Graduates at 2015 Spring Commencement
Mark Sat., May 9 for spring commencement exercises in Misenheimer. The ceremony, where bachelor’s degrees will be conferred member of the class of 2015, will take place at 10:30 a.m. at Merner Gymnasium.
The commencement speaker is Arch Stokes, whose uncle, J. Lemacks "Lem" Stokes was president of Pfeiffer College from 1953-68. Mr. Stokes, an attorney and nationally known trial lawyer, comes from a family history of United Methodist preachers and teachers, including several who spent decades as missionaries in Korea.
2015 Heart of Grace Award to be presented to Lynne and Elizabeth Safrit
On Wed., April 15, Pfeiffer University will present the 2015 Heart of Grace Award to the dynamic mother-daughter duo of Lynne Scott Safrit, president and COO for Castle and Cook, LLC, and leader of the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, and Elizabeth Safrit, 2014 Miss United States.

The 2015 Financial Fraud & Investigations Conference, presented by Pfeiffer University, will take place on Wed., June 10, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., at the Charlotte Convention Center. Acclaimed North Carolina writer Margaret Maron is Pfeiffer University’s Friends of the Library 2015 Spring Luncheon Speaker
Pfeiffer University Friends of the Library welcomes North Carolina author Margaret Maron to its annual spring luncheon. Ms. Maron will discuss her latest book, Designated Daughters, Tues., April 14, 2015, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Misenheimer campus, Stokes Student Center, 48380 U.S. Hwy 52N.
Ms. Maron is the author of two short story collections and 29 mystery novels, including a series that features the character Sigrid Harald, an NYPD lieutenant whose policeman father was killed in the line of duty when she was a child, and The Deborah Knott series, about an attorney and daughter of an infamous North Carolina bootlegger. The latter provides the backdrop for Designated Daughters (2014, Grand Central Publishing), the most recent story in the collection.
