Plan, Prepare, Protect: Strengthening Safety in Ministry
Pfeiffer University will host a three-day seminar April 17-19 at its Charlotte, N.C., campus and Myers Park United Methodist Church for church and ministry leaders that provides education and resources for addressing and strengthening safety and managing risk in congregations and other ministry settings. Plan, Prepare, Protect: Strengthening Safety in Ministry will prepare clergy as well as church business administrators, finance leaders and trustees to inform their congregations about security priorities, mitigate security risks and evaluate safety plans.
Global Ministries interns return to Pfeiffer to share their cultural experiences
On Feb. 20, three mission interns Nick Haigler ’11, Joy Prim ’09 and Alex Devoid ’11 were welcomed back to Pfeiffer’s Misenheimer campus for a chapel service at The Village Church. Each of these recent Pfeiffer graduates has completed the international service component of an internship with the United Methodist Church. Now they will serve in the missionary field domestically as part of Global Ministries, UMC’s global missions agency.
Service Remains at the Core of Pfeiffer Experience
Pfeiffer University prides itself on its strong commitment to servant leadership and learning. Throughout the year, students are exposed to service in the classroom, through the Francis Center for Student Leadership and through Pfeiffer-led service opportunities during fall and spring breaks.
In March, Pfeiffer provided opportunities for students to travel abroad and serve others in Guatemala and Nicaragua. In Guatemala, a team of 20 people constructed the foundation of the National Primitive Evangelical Methodist Church of Guatemala in the Xebaj Segundo community, a small mountain community that was devastated by landslides caused by hurricane Stan in 2005. This church, when complete, will be one of two protestant churches in the community.

In 2011, Jazmine Sanchez Linares, a bilingual education major at Universidad Madero in Mexico, heard about Pfeiffer University during a trip to Nashville. By spring 2012, she was living on the Misenheimer campus, busy with internships at an after-school program at Albemarle Middle School and volunteering with Sunday School at Marvin Methodist Church, a multicultural congregation in Winston-Salem, through that city’s Hispanic Ministry.
