Global Ministries interns return to Pfeiffer to share their cultural experiences

mission internsOn Feb. 20, three mission interns Nick Haigler '11, Joy Prim '09 and Alex Devoid '11 were welcomed back to Pfeiffer's Misenheimer campus for a chapel service at The Village Church.  Each of these recent Pfeiffer graduates has completed the international service component of an internship with the United Methodist Church. Now they will serve in the missionary field domestically as part of Global Ministries, UMC's global missions agency.

Nick Haigler's international mission assignment was as a service and outreach coordinator at the L'viv United Methodist church, which serves a large downtown population of young people in L'viv, Ukraine. For his domestic assignment, he will move to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to work with the Wesley Foundation at the University of Alabama.

Joy Prim served with the Mission for Migrant Workers, an organization dedicated to helping migrants in crisis, nearly all female, in Hong Kong.  The Mission is dedicated to providing emergency assistance and legal services to those in need. She will now work at the Filipino Migrant Center in Long Beach, Calif.

Alex Devoid worked as a facilitator for communications and visiting mission volunteers at Acción Médica Cristiana in Nicaragua. This organization was established in 1984 to provide pro bono services to people in impoverished communities in Nicaragua. Its multidisciplinary staff of health professionals emphasizes the health of women, children and adolescents. For the domestic portion of his assignment, Alex will work with Borderlinks, an organization that raises awareness about the impact of border and immigration policies, in Tucson, Ariz.
