Counseling Services

The Pfeiffer Institute for Marriage and Family Therapy provides affordable and confidential counseling services in a strength-based approach for optimal health and functioning. The clinic was established as a mental health and wellness resource to the community and as an added resource to students. In addition, the clinic provides master’s level graduate students of the Marriage and Family Therapy Program opportunities to provide direct therapy services to individuals, couples, families and groups.

The therapist interns promote healthy emotional development and are trained to address the following issues:

• Pre-marital counseling

• Parenting support
• Grief & Loss counseling
• Work & Career issues
• Stress management
• Life transitions
• Conflict resolution

All therapy services are confidential. Records are not accessible to family, faculty, administrator, or anyone except the student and therapist (unless the student signs a witnessed statement allowing other such access or as required by law).

Eligibility and Fees

Graduating students receive three free counseling sessions to help sharpen their focus on making the transition from the classroom to the work force with their new-found skill and optimism.

An active student I.D. number is required. The standard fee for enrolled students will be $10 per session.

Confidentiality

All counseling services are completely confidential to the limits provided by the law, and no information can be released within or outside of the University without the individual’s written consent. The staff also adheres to all ethical guidelines of the professional associations to which they belong.

Note: The therapist interns adhere to the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) Code of Ethics. Therefore, client services may not be used as a vehicle to substantiate testimony in a court of law. All therapist interns receive supervision from a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor or an AAMFT Supervisor-in-Training.
