Master of Business Administration/Master of Science in Leadership Joint Degree

mba_msl_brochureThe dual degree Master of Business Administration/Master of Science in Leadership joint degree program is specifically designed to integrate key elements from both existing programs to provide a new degree option for students.

The primary focus of most existing MBA programs is to provide the student with an overall understanding of the key functional areas of an organization with a heavy emphasis on systems and quantitative approaches. As such, most MBA programs do not provide the student with an adequate understanding of the human behavior - leadership side of an organization. On the other hand, students focusing on the behavioral - leadership side of an organization can benefit from an enhanced understanding and appreciation of the key functional areas of organizations.

In today's organizational world, we are moving more and more into a global, increasingly diverse and competitive environment. In these circumstances, it is critical that managers increase their knowledge and skill in managing an organization's human resources and their ability to develop high performance organizations and teams.

This new dual degree program is designed to provide the student with the best of both worlds, i.e., a solid background in the key functional areas of an organization, coupled with a major focus on effective leadership and change management knowledge and skill.

MBA/MSL Joint Degree Program Requirements

Admission Requirements:

  • Completion of a baccalaureate degree with a satisfactory grade point average
  • Three letters of recommendation and the completion of an application for admissions form
  • Satisfactory completion of either the: (1) Miller Analogies Test (MAT), (2) Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT), (3) Graduate Record Examination (GRE), or other standardized graduate admissions test. This requirement is waived for applicants who have earned a previous graduate degree from an accredited institution.

Undergraduate Prerequisites:

Prerequisite competence at the undergraduate level is required for several courses in the dual degree curriculum. Documentation of study and/or applied knowledge is required for: (1) Accounting I and Accounting II, (2) Microeconomics and Macroeconomics and (3) Statistics.
Students who have not satisfied prerequisite requirements may be admitted to the program on a provisional basis with the stipulation that all prerequisite requirements must be satisfied within one year of beginning graduate studies.

Program Requirements:

To earn a Pfeiffer MBA/MSL joint degree, you must complete 54 semester hours, which generally takes 30-36 months.

  • MSL 710 Effective Leadership
  • MSL 712 Ethical Behavior and Employment Law
  • MSL 715 Critical Thinking for Continuous Improvement or MSL 720 Managing a Diverse Workforce
  • MSL 720 Managing a Diverse Workforce
  • MSL 730 Human Resource Management or MSL 731 Human Resource Development
  • MSL 740 Negotiations and Conflict Resolution
  • MSL 750 Organizational Change Management
  • MSL 751 Strategies for Building High Performance Organizations and Teams
  • MSL - Elective (three hours from any other MSL course or another course from the MBA curriculum with the approval of the program director)
