The Friends of the G.A. Pfeiffer Library's Spring Luncheon on Tues., March 20, features Sharyn McCrumb, an award-winning author best known for her Appalachian â€œBalladâ€ novels set in the North Carolina and Tennessee mountains.
Among her best-known works are New York Times bestsellers The Ballad of Frankie Silver and She Walks These Hills as well as St. Dale, for which she received the Library of Virginia Award and was featured at the National Festival of the Book. Her current novel, The Ballad of Tom Dooley (2011), examines the true story behind the celebrated folksong made famous by the Kingston Trio. In 2008, she was named a Virginia Woman of History for Achievement in Literature by the Library of Virginia.
The luncheon and presentation will take place in the Stokes Student Center Community Room at 11 a.m. The cost is $25 for Friends of the Library members and $30 for nonmembers.
